 Quick overview

These are the default behaviours of Onboard's keys. Note, that many of them can be modified in Preferences.

Character keys

Press to insert the shown character

Long-press to open a selection of related characters.

Right click to insert the character in upper case.

Long-press popups are not only available for many letters, but also for digits, currency symbols and others.

Modifier keys

Keys SHIFT, CTRL, ALT, Alt-Gr:

Press once to activate for the next typed character only

Press a second time to keep it active

Press a third time to deactivate

Press and hold: on a multi-touch enabled device these keys can be held down with one finger while typing characters with another.

Keys CAPS, NumLock:

Press to toggle.

Note: NumLock will be remembered across restarts of Onboard.

Layer Buttons

Use Layer Buttons to switch to additional, less frequently used keys.

Press once to activate for the next typed character only

Press a second time to keep it active for longer

Press a third time or press any other layer button to deactivate
Word Suggestions

Word Suggestions can be enabled on preferences page "Typing Assistance".

Spelling suggestions like are displayed whenever Onboard detects a potentially misspelled word at or before the caret.

Press the suggestion to replace the misspelled word

Press the arrow to show more spelling suggestions

Word completions and predictions:

Press any of suggestions to insert the word at the caret

Long-press any to show a popup menu for that suggestions

The popup menu currently allows to remove erroneous suggestions.

Click Type Buttons

Click Type Buttons are useful for people who can only perform single left clicks or taps. They are not visible by default but can be shown easily by pressing the button with the left leaning arrow . Note, that in some of Onboard's smaller layouts this button is only reachable by long-pressing Return.

Press , then click anywhere on screen to perform a middle click.

Press , then click anywhere on screen to perform a right click.

Press , then click anywhere on screen to perform a double click.

Press , then click anywhere on screen to start a drag operation. Click a second time to stop.

Any of these actions can be cancelled by pressing the initiating button a second time.

Hover Click Button

This button enables the Hover Click feature of mousetweaks.

Press once to turn Hover Click on

Press again to turn it off

Hover over it for a while and it will turn on as well.

Hover Click settings can be changed on preferences page "Accessibility".

Note, that the path to the Hover Click button is hover-enabled as well. Onboard's floating icon and the left-leaning arrow button can be activated by hovering, too.

Snippet Buttons

Snippet Buttons insert arbitrary strings of text. Switch to the snippets layer with to see them.

Press the button to insert an existing snippet, or, if still undefined, create a new one.

Long-press to edit a snippet
