Use <app>Onboard</app> with the <app>GNOME Display Manager</app> (GDM)

How to start Onboard at the GDM login screen depends on the version of GDM that you are running:

<app>GDM</app> up to version 2.20

The older GDM offered the possibility to link the start of applications to determined keystrokes or mouse gestures. The latter are of particular interest for the start of an onscreen keyboard and you can find detailed information about how to set up GDM to start Onboard in this webpage.

<app>GDM</app> 2.30 and above

The newer versions of GDM offer the possibility to display an accessibility icon in the panel at the bottom of the screen. By clicking on the accessibility icon, an accessibility dialog will appear. This accessibility dialog has checkboxes for the various accessibility tools. A click on the checkbox corresponding to the onscreen keyboard will make the onscreen keyboard appear and it will continue to get started with GDM until the user disables the checkbox.

If the accessibility icon is not available in the bottom panel or if a different onscreen keyboard gets started than the one that you would like to use, please have a look at the following page with detailed information about how to configure the new GDM.

<app>GDM3</app>

The information about how to use Onboard with GDM3 is not available yet; sorry.
